Governor Quinn Threatening Early Childhood Program Funding

Early Childhood Funding Eliminated in Governor’s Proposed Budget
Yesterday, Governor Quinn proposed a version of the budget that COMPLETELY ELIMINATES FUNDING for critical services for young children and their families. The budget:

Eliminates the Early Childhood Block Grant, forcing 100,000 children out of preschool, cutting services for infants and toddlers, and causing more than 5,000 teachers to lose their [...]

Pee Wee’s Playhouse

By “pee wee,” I mean, Hazel, of course.  I had mentioned we went garage sale-ing last weekend in hopes to find some outdoor play equipment for the summer.  We were not victorious in the playhouse category, but we did find a good deal on one at Walmart.  Even though every time I leave there I tell Phillip “I am never [...]

Day 4, No Binky

This is the fourth night Hazel has gone down without her binky and so far so good.  Saturday night was the worst, but she was also battling a cold, which may have had something to do with it.  Both Friday night and last night, however, she slept though the night.  Tonight she didn’t even ask for “binky” as we laid [...]

“Bye Bye Binky”

Today we went to the doctor because Hazel has had a loose cough and I was worried her ear infection was back.  Good news, it isn’t, but she does have a cold and thrush, which is yeast in the mouth.  The doctor advised it might be a good time to get rid of the pacifier, as we would have [...]

Climbing, among other things

Hazel recently.
This evening after work Hazel and I were running some errands.  She is not the most patient shopper in the world and was starting to get fussy just before our last stop.  I tried to distract her by asking if she wanted to “hold mommy’s purse”  to which she answered by saying “rurse.”  I handed her my (zipped [...]

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Hello everyone, Hazel here.  As you know today was Mother’s Day and I think I can sufficiently say I helped mommy to have the best day ever!
First on the agenda, I took her to the zoo.  I know she likes it a lot, so I figured we should go.  I asked daddy to drive cause I thought that would [...]

Breakfast of Champions

Kacey asked me quite some time ago to post these muffin recipes.  Sorry it took so long.
I got tired of the messy cereal and felt it was a little bland and boring.  I started doing this when Hazel started school.  I make a huge batch of either my mom’s recipe or one I use from [...]
